Armed raiders have killed at least six people and wounded twelve others in Panyinjar County of Unity state.

At about 5am this morning, a group of armed men allegedly from Lakes State attacked a village in Panyinjar County.

“Five houses have been burned down and a large number of cattle have been stolen,” the MP representing Panyinjar County in the state, Simon Gatluak, told Eye Radio.

“I could only just tell our people that they should take this issue of insecurity seriously because it has been happening for centuries and actually it has not been worked out because people are armed in the other side,” said Hon. Gatluak, “and these people are actually helpless because they have no weapons to defend themselves.”

“This is a very big problem.”

Mr. Gatluak also said that security forces are now on the ground to calm the situation.

Despite last month’s meeting between authorities from Unity, Warrap and Lakes States, held to address increasing insecurity in the area, the situation in the states remains tense.
