4 killed in Juba-Kajokeji Road attack

Four people were shot dead and five others injured during an attacked on a vehicle along the Juba-Kajo Keji road, Central Equatoria state on Saturday.

Aggrey Tisa Sabuni, Presidential Advisor on economic Affairs, says a group of about six armed men attacked the vehicle as it was traveling from Juba to kajo Keji.

Mr Sabuni addressed reporters at the Juba Teaching Hospital this afternoon, as part of the delegation representing the Kajo Keji community.

“Attacks have been taking place on the Juba-Kajo Keji road; many of those attacks were limited to robbing money and property from the passengers,” Mr Sabuni said.

“But what happened had nothing to do with robbery of property or money; it was meant to kill.”

The truck that fell into the ambush of about 6 armed men was carrying 14 passengers.

“Out of those, four are confirmed dead. They are now here in the mortuary; we are arranging to transport the bodies to the countryside,” he added.

Among the wounded is a woman who is now in a critical condition. She was shot in the chest.

“She is fighting for her life, but we hope things will become okay.”

Mr. Tisa says the state authorities are providing escorts to transport the bodies from Juba.

The National Member of Parliament representing Kajo-Keji County, Mary Kiden Kimbo, says the matter needs to be investigated:

“Now, what happened yesterday to that car was only 200 meters from where these security personnel were sitting. And this is what we, as the MPs, would like to go to the authorities for and find out, what is happening?

Eye Radio was not able to get in touch with the authorities concerned with security along the Juba-Kajo Keji road. But we will continue make efforts.

The two leaders appealed to the government to ensure that all roads are safe for citizens to travel without fear.
