The 300 South Sudanese students who studied at the Juba-based branch of Kampala University, but were denied graduation, are now having their academic credentials conferred to them, according to reports.

The students are being graduated by Team University, Kampala campus affiliated with the Destiny University College in Juba, the City Review newspaper reported.

The graduation ceremony is reportedly happening at Pope Paul Memorial hotel garden, Kampala.

In July 2022, the South Sudanese students who completed their studies from the Juba-based campus, dragged Kampala University Vice Chancellor Badru Dungu Kateregga to the court.

They accused Mr Dungu, and the administration of betrayal by tricking them into paying their tuition for years at the controversial Kampala University of South Sudan.

The tuition fees were allegedly paid via the University’s account at the Number One Charter Bank in Uganda.

However, a few days into the graduation ceremony, the VC made an abrupt announcement that he closed the Juba branch.

Prof. Dungu later defended his decision, saying the Juba-based branch suspended operation in 2017, after the South Sudan authorities demanded “an unreasonable registration fee.”

A Kampala court later ruled in favor of the university, thus terminating the case and maintaining that any activities at the suspended college in Juba are illegal.
