Lawmaker condoles families after deadly mining site attack in Wunduruba

Wunduruba, South Sudan – 30 March 2026: A national lawmaker representing Wunduruba Administrative Payam, Amule Michael Lasu, has expressed deep condolences to families affected by a deadly attack at a mining site in Kare-Nare (Khor Ghaltan) over the weekend and call for an urgent government investigation

In an exclusive interview with Eye Radio, MP Amule called for a thorough and prompt investigation into the incident, which left scores of people dead.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the innocent civilians who lost their lives in the recent incident in our area,” Amule said. “

We urge the government to thoroughly investigate the matter, as reports suggest an unknown gunman may be involved, with some indications pointing to SPLA-IO and NASS, though this has not been confirmed.”

He also cautioned residents about traveling in the area: “We advise our people traveling along the route from Juba to Gorom and from Gorom to Wunduruba to exercise caution, as the road is currently unsafe due to insecurity. It is best to hold off on travel until the situation stabilizes.”

Amule emphasized the need for calm while investigations proceed. “There is some disagreement over whether the incident occurred within Wunduruba or Juba County, but specifically, it took place in Kare-Nare, part of Wunduruba Payam, situated at the border with Juba County. Once investigations are complete, we will provide further updates,” he said.
