At least 2,000 Jonglei IDPs arrive in EES’s Melijo camp

More than two thousand Internally Displaced Persons who have fled violence in Jonglei have arrived in Melijo camp, Nimule, Eastern Equatoria State in the last three days.

The head of the committee that oversees the IDPs issues in the state says they have been living in poor conditions and are at risk of contracting communicable diseases.

Paska Hivita Oduho, who is also the State Minister of Gender, told Eye Radio that the state government is together with partners is working to ensure that basic services are offered to the I-D-P-s.

“Child Fund, Korea have already established five classrooms for primary schools – P1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and we opened it officially,” he said.

“The state government has donated some books and black boards to help the school children there.”

Eastern Equatoria State is hosting large numbers of I-D-P-s with Nimule having the highest number more than 35,000 people.

Some I-D-P-s are in camps while others have sought refuge within the community residential areas.
