An UXO in Juba's Rock City area - March 2013.

A 15-year-old boy was killed by unexploded ordinance, UXOs, in Lual village, Unity state on Monday.

Another 13 year old boy was also injured while playing with the explosive.

The undetected bomb had been left underground during the 21-year long civil war.

The Manager of the Department of Protection and Safety in Leer County, Maradona Dual said that the public should be alert –especially during the rainy season when water mostly washes away the top layer of the soil, and exposes unexploded devices.

Mister Dual calls on parents to stay away from unknown areas such as bushes and former military barracks.

He also urges citizens to report any suspicious object to the authorities before touching or playing with it.

It is reported that old or rusty explosives can stay for decades, and still remains reactive.
