10 former members of the SPLM-In opposition have arrived in Juba today after splitting from the leadership of Dr. Riak Machar.

They were headed by Lieutenant-General James Gai.

The team was received by the defense Minister, Kuol Manyang and other high profile officials from the national government.

Mr. Kuol called upon the other members of the opposition to come back to South Sudan and join the government in bringing peace.

“We welcome them and they have taken their places among their brothers,” the minister said.

“We all build South Sudan and we have voted for the referendum that lead to separation of south Sudan from the Sudan and we became the Independent. We are calling for our brothers who are still out to come and join us.”

For his part, Lt-Gen Gai says they will work together with the government in an effort to bring stability in the country:

“We come for peace; the president brought us here. He said that ‘you come. South Sudan is for all of us’; so we came to stand with the president of Republic Salva Kiir.”

In February, the former Spokesman of the SPLA in opposition, Brigadier General Lul Koang Ruai broke away from the group.
