Yei hospital affected by fuel shortage

Surgical operations in Yei Civil Hospital have been suspended due to shortage of fuel for generators, an official has said.

Generally, Yei town has gone without electricity for almost a week now, affecting businesses.

The town’s Electric Cooperation had earlier said that they lacked fuel to operate generators that supply the area with power.

The hospital’s medical director, Dr Joseph Malish, has called on the government and partners to supply fuel to the facility in order to improve on delivery of health services to the citizens.

“This is very challenging for us. All the facilities and the equipment in the hospital need power especially the laboratory, the X-ray, and other departments,” Dr Malish said.

Yei civil hospital is a state owned facility established since 1916.
