The payam administrator of Mboro in Wau County, Western Bahr al-Ghazal State, has been shot dead.

An unidentified gunman killed Natale John Hassan in an ambush at Gokazi Boma on Sunday. Late Natale was attacked on his way back to town from a funeral.

He was travelling with a policeman and the paramount chief of Wau County, William Kamilio Gwage.

The policeman was also shot dead while Mr Kamilio sustained injuries in the incident.

Mr Kamilo told Eye Radio that the attacker targeted the administrator.

“When we were coming back on three motor bikes, I was carrying a solider while the other three were on one motorbike and the Payam administrator was alone on his motor bike,” he explained.

“When we arrived at the hill, a soldier just cocked his gun saying, ‘stop, stop,’ and shot at us. I ran into the bush.

“They continued shooting at the payam administrator, saying, ‘here is him; here is him’.”

The motive of the killing of the payam official is unclear. No suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
