Yambio teacher murdered after demanding SSP400,000 debts

The police in Yambio City of Western Equatoria State apprehended a 35-year-old man on Friday in connection with the killing of a teacher whom he owed items worth 400,000 South Sudanese pounds.

Acting Western Equatoria Police Commissioner, Major General Ishag Abud said suspect Justin John is in police custody for allegedly murdering the man who had threatened to drag him to court.

The victim, Anthony Bangodi, a talented traditional singer and primary school teacher, was beaten to death on Thursday night at his residence in Yambio town.

According to witness accounts, the deceased previously sent the suspect to sell his items worth the thousands of pounds in neighboring Ezo County.

Neighbors narrated to the police, that upon his return, the suspect reportedly refused to pay the money – prompting the deceased threatened to sue the suspect at a local court.

Following the misunderstanding, the alleged perpetrator is said to have beaten Mr. Bangodi with a block of brick until he died.

However, police chief General Abud has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Justen John amid an ongoing investigation.

“The information’s are with the officer who is on duty because I don’t have more information, but I can confirm to you is we have arrested him, he was arrested yesterday,” General Abud spoke told Eye Radio from Yambio.

“He is around 34 to 35 years old; he is now in police custody, the investigation has started yesterday after the arrest and investigation he will be taken to the curt as a normal process.”
