A civil society activist is appealing to the newly reconstituted National Transitional Committee (NTC) leadership to convene an urgent meeting to address the pending tasks in the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.

In a statement to Eye Radio, Edmund Yakani – the Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization – appealed for the development of a clear and inclusive action plan to guide the transitional period, which runs from 22ND of February, 2025, to 22ND of February, 2027.

“I … appeal to the newly reconstituted leadership of the National Transitional Committee, NTC, to hold an immediate meeting for reviewing and for coming out with a clear and concrete action plans for delivering the pending tasks of the R-ARCSS within the extended transitional period which starts from 22nd February 2025 and ending in 22nd February 2027,” he said.

He said the period is vital for creating conditions necessary for holding elections scheduled for December 2026.

“We are aware that in this particular period of time a good enough condition can be created for holding of election in December 2026”, he added.

“My appeal to the new leadership of the NTC is that, please positively respond and call for  an inclusive meeting that involves political parties and civil society at their various capacities for all of us to come together as a nation to agree on implementation action plan for delivering the pending task of R-ARCSS.”

Edmond Yakani also urged the leadership of National Transitional Committee to integrate the outcomes of the Tumaini process into a unified political framework to ensure a smooth transition.

He further raised concerns about key issues that need urgent attention to ensure credible elections next year.

Yakani went on to say failure to act decisively could undermine public trust in the transitional process and the elections.

CEPO pledged to monitor and observe the compliance of government institutions with the provisions of revitalized peace agreement and the electoral process.
