WBGS launches 14-day animal fitness campain

A two-week animal fitness campaign has been launched in Western Bahr El Ghazal by the state Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Animal Resources.

The state veterinary director says the aim is to provide healthcare to the donkeys and horses used by residents to carry loads.

Jihan Adam Adei says animal owners will be given certificates to prove their animals are fit to work.

She told Eye Radio that they are targeting a large number of animals.

“Actually, we are targeting about four hundred,” she revealed. “They’re donkeys and horses.

“Donkeys are supposed to carry five hundred kilograms and for horses, we give them 1,000 kilogram as a maximum load.”

Madam Adei said the national Ministry of Agriculture has drafted a bill that protects domestic animals against abuse and it has been presented to the parliament.

She urged animal owners to care for their animals since they can be used as a source of income.
