The government of Warrap State has donated food relief to hundreds of people recently displaced by violence in Panthou (also known as Heglig) following clashes between Sudanese warring factions.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the state government said the returnees, including women and children, have been sheltering in schools in the state capital, Kuajok.

Earlier this month, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took over the border town of Panthou from the Sudanese army.

The town serves as a key transit corridor for South Sudanese oil.

Warrap State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission Chairperson Ajiek Maruop said the relief assistance includes 150 bags of flour, 65 bags of beans, 5 bags of sugar, 13 jerrycans of oil, 3 cartons of salt and 20 cartons of soap.

Ajiek added that the state government, together with the national government and humanitarian agencies, is working through the State Relief Commission to ensure continued support for the vulnerable people.

He also reiterated that the state government will continue mobilizing resources to assist the displaced population.
