Warrap authorities launch probe into Gogrial East violence

WARRAP STATE, June 18, 2026 — Authorities in Warrap State say a delegation led by Governor Bol Wek Agoth has committed to a joint investigation into the violence that erupted on 14 June 2026 in Gogrial East County, with a promise that those responsible will be held accountable.

The violence left two people dead after an initial attack in Gogrial East. The incident later escalated into retaliatory attacks that resulted in five additional deaths and the raiding of 56 cattle.

Speaking to Eye Radio, State Information Minister Wol Mayom said the governor visited Gogrial East County, particularly the Matiel area bordering Marial Baai Payam in Jur River County, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, to assess the security situation following the clashes.

Mayom said the governor met community leaders, chiefs and youth representatives and called for an end to hostilities and calm among the affected communities, including neighboring areas in Jur River County.

“Yesterday, His Excellency the governor of Warrap State himself led a delegation to Gogrial East particularly in Matiel bordering Payam Marial Baai of Jur River in order to acquire himself a security situation,” Wol said.

“He engaged community leaders, executive chiefs and youths who were in the meeting to cease hostilities and also called for calm and urged counterparts in areas surrounding Jur River County to do the same. He promised that all perpetrators involved in the incident of 14 June 2026 will be jointly investigated and held accountable.”

The state government said it remains committed to restoring peace in the affected areas and urged communities to cooperate with authorities as investigations continue.
