Wajuma Aweil and Jamus Juba played out a dramatic 1-1 draw in match-week two of the South Sudan Premier League at Juba National Stadium on Tuesday.
Jamus FC, buoyed by their emphatic 5-0 win over Bentiu City in the opening week, faced a tactically disciplined Wajuma side that executed a 4-3-2-1 formation, shifting defensively to 5-3-2.
Wajuma relied on a counterattacking strategy, closing spaces and pressuring the ball carrier and their approach paid off in the 28th minute when striker Omar Taban scored after a swift counterattack.
Wajuma then retreated to defense, attempting to protect their lead, but in the second half, Jamus FC responded by making tactical changes to intensify their attack with versatile wingers Cisse and Malawian Laghamous.
Despite several promising attempts, Wajuma’s goalkeeper denied Jamus multiple dangerous shots.
However, relentless pressure from Jamus paid off in stoppage time when Mario unleashed a powerful strike to secure the equalizer in the extra time.
In Post-match Andre Cassa Mbunga, coach of Jamus FC, cited player fatigue due to recent national team duties as a key factor affecting performance.
He also criticized the referee’s decisions but remained optimistic, saying his team would address the issues in upcoming matches.
On his part, Manawa Deng, the Head Coach of Wajuma Awiel FC, expressed satisfaction with the team’s improved performance following their 2-0 loss to Kator in the first week.
He highlighted recent transfers as instrumental in enhancing the team’s play and emphasized the importance of adapting tactics based on each match.
Kator FC are top of the league table with 3 points and 3 goals following their 1:0 victory over Malakia in the Juba derby on Monday. Jamus trail in the second position with four points and four goals.
