UNICEF hands over $1 million clean water system in Yei

UN’s children agency UNICEF on Tuesday handed over a clean water supply system expected to benefit thousands of households in Yei town of Central Equatoria Project.

The Yei Town Water Supply Project was funded by the Federal Government of Germany with an estimated cost of $1.2 million.

Its construction started on December 22, 2021 and ended on March 1, 2023.

It is expected to benefit 61 thousand people in Yei town and nearby residential areas. Each 20-litre jerrican will cost about 30 South Sudan pounds.

The water system commissioning was attended by Pal Mai Deng, the national Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Tobias Eichner, the German ambassador to South Sudan and Hamida Lasseko, UNICEF Country Director for South Sudan.

Other officials are Fred Lako Raymond, Central Equatoria State Minister of Housing and Public Utilities, and Moro Genesio, Central Equatoria Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement.
