Parliamentary Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba is calling on South Sudanese in the diaspora to return home and contribute to nation building during this time of peace.

Nunu said those who left the country because of the wars or to seek education, should now come back and apply their knowledge for the good of South Sudan.

She acknowledged Luol Deng, the President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation and former NBA star as an exemplary South Sudanese.

Speaker Nunu added that every citizen has a role to make the country proud.

Nunu said: “We had war, our children went abroad, and they studied different disciplines and skills there. Now we got our independence, it is time for them to come back and build their own country and make their own country proud.”

She spoke during the viewing of the FIBA World Cup Trophy at the national parliament premises in Juba Monday.

Tens of thousands of South Sudanese fled to different parts of the world mainly in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Canada, during the Sudanese civil war.

The civil war that erupted after South Sudan’s independence further displaced more than 2 million South Sudanese to the region, according to UNHCR.
