The Deputy Chairperson of South Sudan Students’ Union in Uganda has denied claims that $25,000 that was donated by the office of the president has gone missing.
In early September, the presidency announced the $150,000 donation meant to enable the union to assist those students forced to drop out of their study as a result of conflict.
The chairperson of the anti-corruption commission in the union, Muroin Maker, had complained that only $125,000 was recorded out of $150,000.
He demanded an explanation for the union’s finance minister. But the deputy chairperson of the union, Lual Jiel, described the allegation as a rumor.
“He just got a rumor from nowhere and went to the media without consulting us as members of the union,” said Mr Jiel.
“We have received $150,000 and we have confirmed. And we have a document to prove that we have in deed received that money.”
