Fighting in Upper Nile has ‘stopped’

Author : | Published: Sunday, October 12, 2014

SPLA spokesman Col Philip Aguer says fighting has stopped in Dolieb Hill and Ashap al-Nil in Upper Nile State.

Clashes broke out in the two areas south of the state capital Malakal, on Friday morning between the SPLA and the SPLA in Opposition forces.

No casualties have been reported.

Colonel Philip Aguer said this afternoon that there was no more fighting in the two areas and he says the region is now in the control of the SPLA. He said the SPLA fought in self-defense.

“They have been attacking the SPLA positions in Unity State, in Upper Nile and in Jonglei. We have to do our part as government forces,” said Col Aguer.

The SPLA in Opposition forces have not commented on the current situation in Upper Nile State.

However, both sides have so far traded accusations over violation of the ceasefire agreement which was signed in January this year.

They told Eye Radio yesterday that they had informed IGAD of the violations.
