Turkish AMB urges investors, govt to empower South Sudanese

Turkey’s Ambassador to South Sudan encourages international investors and the government to empower South Sudanese to create jobs and generate income for themselves.

Ambassador Erdem Mutaf made the remarks during the launch of Turkish Business Association in Juba on Saturday, June 17.

Mutaf said supporting the implementation of the peace agreement creates an enabling environment and opportunities for the local population.

“You may agree that supporting the peace process does not necessarily mean the provision of materials or financial loans but creating jobs,” the diplomat said.

He added: “Enabling people to generate income, and helping them to improve their standard of living.”

“This should also be considered support to the peace process in South Sudan. The role of the Turkish business association among the relevant sectors of both countries will be very instrumental in this respect.”

According to him, Turkey’s February 2023 donation of 75,000 military uniforms to South Sudan is the first biggest Turkish government military donation to a country in Africa.

Erdem also said Ankara’s priorities in South Sudan are to empower women, provide high-quality education and offer capacity-building and business opportunities to create jobs for South Sudanese.
