A plan to build a system that will supply Torit town with clean water over the next three years has been set up, according to Eastern Equatoria State authorities.

The Mayor of the town, Martin Odeki, says the project will cost about €8 million and will be funded by the governments of Germany and Finland.

Last year, more than 100 people died in a Cholera outbreak in the state, with most of the cases reported in Torit.

Mr. Odeki told Eye Radio that the project will reduce the risks of water-borne diseases in the area.

“It is a good project which I am very sure will really work to put at least clean water in the urban areas around Torit and residential areas,” he said.

Mr. Odeki added that officials have been sent from Juba to assess the feasibility of the project.
