Tonj University construction delayed due to increased cost

The construction of the University of Tonj in Warrap State has been delayed because the cost of transportation has increased, an official has said.

The university was initially called the University of Alexandria.

South Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt Anthony Louise told Eye Radio that the Egyptian government had planned to transport the building materials to Juba, instead of Tonj town where it is needed.

He said the government of Egypt is going to increase the budget to enable the equipment reach Warrap State.

“They told us that they need to allocate some money to add it to the already amount that was budgeted for the university,” said Ambassador Louise.

Ambassador Louise said Egyptian lecturers prefer to remain in Juba due to lack of services in Tonj town.

He said the ministry of Education is working to address the issues.
