Mobile network operators say the adjustment of the telecommunications tariff exchange rate is intended to sustain reliable communication services amid rising operational costs.
The adjusted tariff exchange rate will take effect later at midnight.
In a joint statement issued today, Friday, Digitel, MTN and Zain said the adjustment follows approval by the National Communications Authority.
The operators attributed the move to inflation, rising fuel prices, depreciation of the South Sudan Pound, limited access to foreign currency and the need to continue investing in telecommunications infrastructure.
They said the adjustment will be implemented in phases to reduce its impact on consumers.
The companies also clarified that the measure is not a tariff increase, but an adjustment of the tariff exchange rate to reflect current economic conditions.
The National Communications Authority said it directed operators to absorb a significant share of inflationary pressures to help safeguard the sustainability of the telecommunications sector.
