The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards has disposed of 2,000 cartons of spoiled chicken products at a designated dumping site in Juba after they were intercepted in a malfunctioning refrigerator in Nimule.
The operation was carried out by officers from the bureau’s Quality Assurance Department, working alongside security personnel and local authorities from Rajaf Payam.
The disposal followed an inspection at the bureau Nimule Border Station, where officials discovered that the refrigeration system transporting the consignment had failed, causing the chicken products to spoil and become unfit for human consumption.
According to an SSNBS statement, the decision to dump the products was taken to prevent potential health risks to consumers and to ensure substandard goods do not enter the local market.
The bureau reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health by enforcing quality and safety standards at border points and across the country.
It said that only safe, quality, and compliant products will be allowed to enter and circulate in the South Sudanese market.
The SSNBS added that it will continue to intensify inspections and enforcement actions as part of its mandate to protect consumers and promote standards compliance nationwide.
