‘Stand with the people of S Sudan and invest in their future’

The United Nation Humanitarian Coordinator is calling on donors to invest in the long-term development of South Sudan.

Some donors withheld development aid after the outbreak of the conflict in December 2013 and concentrated on humanitarian assistance.

Toby Lanzer says absence of peace in the country should not stop donors from carrying out development programs in key sectors such as agriculture, education and health.

“Even in the absence of peace it makes sense to invest in the people by carrying out development program in key sectors such as agriculture, education and health in order to support the country to be food secure, provide every child the opportunity to complete their education and help every citizen to access health care,” Mr Lanzer said in a statement.

Mr. Lanzer expressed the continuing support of UN agencies to implement development programmes in all ten states of South Sudan.
