Hundreds protest against proposed peace deal

Hundreds of people demonstrated in Juba today against some provisions of the proposed peace agreement.

The rally was organized by the ruling party, SPLM. The committee that organized the protests says members include teachers, lawyers, farmers, women and students.

Some of the provisions they have rejected include power sharing, demilitarization of Juba and consultations at the presidency.

The government declined to sign the agreement on Monday, saying it needed 15 more days to consult with the people of South Sudan.

The opposition People’s Liberal Party says the country may not move forward if the peace agreement is not signed.
