SPLM-DC opposes conduct of election in 2015

The leader of the opposition SPLM-DC says elections should be held after the formation of a transitional government.

Dr. Lam Akol says the elections will be partial if they are held before achieving peace in the country.

The government announced last week that elections will be held next year.

Dr. Lam says holding elections next year will divide the attentions of the South Sudanese from peace.

“We are saying that peace is the priority and we would want the peace to be realized first,” Dr Akol stated.

“All of us must be concentrating our attention on the issue of bringing about peace.”

Western countries, including the United States have advised against the election, citing the ongoing conflict.
