The SPLA General Headquarters has announced the establishment of a military court martial that shall try soldiers accused of committing crimes against civilians and their comrades in arms.
Last week, the SPLA Chief of General Staff, while ordering soldiers to return to their barracks, promised to punish soldiers accused of looting civilians’ properties and loitering on the streets of Juba.
Many residential areas and main markets of Custom and Jebel in Juba have reported thefts and armed robbery by men in uniform after the end of clashes with the SPLA-IO.
This week, the End Impunity organization reported that 27 women were allegedly raped within 2 days by soldiers outside the UN camp in Jebel Kujur area.
Speaking on SSBC Wednesday evening, the SPLA spokesperson, Brigadier Lul Ruai said the trials of those soldiers accused of breaking the law will begin today.
Brigadier Lul also announced that the SPLA Chief of General Staff will be distributing food ration today to civilians affected by the recent fighting in Jebel Kujur area to the Yei-Juba Checkpoint.
