The spokesperson of the SPLA says the army clashed with the SPLM in Opposition forces yesterday in Tonga in Upper Nile State.

Col Philip Aguer Panyang accuses the SPLM-IO of attacking government barges on the River Nile.

He told Eye Radio that he is yet to receive a full report about the incident.

“The only thing we got in the report is that the barges were attacked on the 31st and around the first yesterday,” Col Aguer told Eye Radio.

“They came under attack from the forces of Riek Machar in Tonga. The SPLA is committed to the cease-fire, only when attacked those barges have the right of self-defense.’’

The SPLM in Opposition has confirmed the clashes in Tonga County but claims they were attacked.

The SPLM-IO also announced that there was another fighting along the River Nile in Jonglei State yesterday.

The clashes are among the violations of the ceasefire that came into force at mid night on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Col Aguer says four SPLA generals will be in Addis Ababa tomorrow to attend a workshop organized by IGAD on the implementation of the ceasefire.

‘‘That will be on the modalities of the implementation of the ceasefire, the agreement,” Col Aguer said, referring to the workshop.
