Pay delay: Yei civil servants claim arrears

Author : | Published: Wednesday, September 2, 2015

More than 245 civil servants in Yei River County are calling on the Central Equatoria State government to pay their arrears that have been due since 2009.

The worker’s trade union Chairperson Scopas Lasuba says the money sum up to more than 200,000.

It is not clear why they were not paid, but Mr Lasuba says there has been no response to many letters he had written to the state ministry of finance on the issue.

“Up to now we have been following this issue in Juba several times… We were told that our money is to be included in the 2015/2016 budget,” Mr Lasuba said.

“And if it’s out and our part is not there, we shall call for a general meeting to tell them what to do.”

The state government officials are yet to comment.
