SPLA to build war monument on “medan simba” in Juba

The SPLA says it will build a military historical monument at Simba Grounds, normally known as “medan simba” in Juba.

The ground is also where the late Anya-anya one veteran, Lual Diing Wol, was recently laid to rest, about a month ago.

The space was originally proposed by the South Sudan Football Federation as a site for the construction of a Football stadium.

However, the SPLA Tiger Battalion commander, General Marial Chanuong, says the monument will be built there once funds are made available.

He said that names of prominent South Sudanese martyrs will be displayed at the ground.

Gen Marial said the ground was originally part of the Sudanese Military Headquarters and now belongs to SPLA.

“This one[the land] now is owned by the army; the football field, the army under current chief of staff came in and invited a company to build what they called a monument,” said Marial; adding that there is an ongoing efforts to secure funds for the establishment of the memorial landmark.

However, Mr. Marial says the place will be fenced up for only heroes and heroines of the “Anya-nya one” struggle, stating that this is according to the law.
