South Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt meets Pope Tawadros II to discuss refugee support

South Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop, met with Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church at the Papal Residence in Cairo to discuss humanitarian support for South Sudanese refugees and vulnerable families.

During the audience, Ambassador Kuol conveyed the deep gratitude of the government and the people of South Sudan for the continuous assistance provided by the Church to South Sudanese nationals living in Egypt, particularly those facing difficult circumstances.

The ambassador commended the Coptic Orthodox Church’s extensive humanitarian efforts, noting its vital role in offering support, compassion, and hope to communities in need.

He added that the Church has consistently promoted the core values of human dignity, solidarity, and peaceful coexistence through its various outreach programs and charitable initiatives.

Ambassador Kuol specifically acknowledged the positive, long-term impact that these outreach initiatives have had on the lives of many South Sudanese families currently residing in Egypt.

The high-level meeting also highlighted the strong, enduring bilateral relations between South Sudan and Egypt, with both sides reaffirming the bonds of friendship and mutual respect that connect the two nations. The discussions emphasized the critical importance of continued cooperation in humanitarian work and joint efforts aimed at serving vulnerable populations.

According to a statement from the Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Cairo, the engagement reflected a shared commitment to supporting humanitarian initiatives and strengthening strategic partnerships that contribute to the welfare of the diaspora.

The embassy further extended its formal appreciation to Pope Tawadros II and the Coptic Orthodox Church for their unwavering partnership and steadfast support for the South Sudanese community.

This diplomatic visit comes as Juba and Cairo continue to strengthen bilateral relations across multiple sectors, including humanitarian cooperation, social development, and people-to-people engagement.
