A South Sudanese boy has died at a camp on the outskirt of Khartoum early this week, Eye Radio has been told.

Roza Richard who lives at the El-Hajj Yousif transit camp told Eye Radio that there is no food and medicine:

“We are living in a deplorable condition, now we are frustrated.

“Few days ago, we had a young man who died simply because there was no money for buying medicine for him.

“We did not have money for buying medicine for saving his life.

“He died and we buried him here at the camp.”

A youth leader at the camp, Edward Marko Braza, says that the people in the camp are desperate to return to South Sudan:

“We hope that the government of South Sudan will urgently transport these people from Khartoum to South Sudan,” said Braza. “Because these people are living in a very bad condition and they are sons and daughters of South Sudan. We just want to travel we don’t want to continue to be here even for a minute more.”

The International Organization for Migration estimates that there are still 500,000 South Sudanese stranded in Khartoum following the independence of South Sudan in 2011.
