South Sudan and Sudan have reviewed the state of their bilateral relations and explored ways to advance cooperation to broader horizons.
According to the Sudan News Agency, SUNA, this followed a high-level meeting on Monday between Sudan’s Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, and a South Sudanese delegation led by the Adviser to the President for Security Affairs, Tut Galuak, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, accompanied by their delegation.
Details of the review have not been made public. But this comes amid the ongoing civil war between the Sudanese Army and RSF which has seen crucial oil infrastructure transporting South Sudan’s crude oil plummeted in recent months, stalling the country’s major source of revenue.
According to the Sudanese Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation across all fields, with Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris stressing the importance of activating the work of all joint technical committees between the two countries.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the strength of relations between Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan, emphasizing the commitment of both governments to enhance and develop these ties in a manner that serves the interests of the peoples of both nations.
The meeting was attended by Sudan’s Minister of Energy, Engineer Mu’atasim Ibrahim Ahmed, and Sudan’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Issam Karrar.
For their part, the South Sudanese delegation reaffirmed the longstanding fraternal ties between the two countries, highlighting the shared destiny of the peoples of Sudan and South Sudan.
During the meeting, Tut Galuak conveyed an invitation from President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris to visit Juba at the earliest opportunity.
