South Sudan today joined some of the African countries to celebrate the African Day.
The Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity presently recognized as the Africa Union.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Minister Foreign affairs called on the government to implement laws that protect girls from early and forced marriage.
The African day is being celebrated under the theme: ‘Human rights with especial focus on women’.
Cirino Hiteng also called on the ministries of education, gender and parents to encourage girls to go to school.
“in South Sudan our government has already recognized the representation on the women at the various levels in government institutions and our president several times indicated that we will pull that to 35%,” he said.
“And government should formulate laws establish laws that can protect this and can improve girl child education and health and well-being.”
