Australia-based South Sudanese music legend Silver X encourages South Sudanese youth to grab any legitimate opportunity to make money, as he records himself mowing grass at a neighbor’s yard to make around a hundred bucks.
In the short clip posted on the singer’s Facebook page, he shared his thoughts on the importance of earning an honest living even by embracing culturally frowned upon manual works, adding that there is no shame in making money.
“Literally, there’s no shame in making money. You can be laying bricks, cutting grass, washing cars—there is no shame in making money in this country,” Silver X said.
Silver X highlighted that the only shame in making money comes from unethical practices such as stealing, killing, robbing, or through corrupt practices.
“The only shame in making money is if you’re stealing, if you’re killing someone, if you’re robbing someone, or if you’re corrupting money like what is happening in South Sudan. When you’re stealing people’s money, that is a bad way of making money.”
Silver X further urged his countrymen to pursue honest work, regardless of the nature of the job. “Other than that, there is no bad way of making money. You understand, gotta guess whatever it is.”
Known by his real name as Okuta Ceaser Malish Jeremiah, Silver X was born in 1988 in Torit and has won many East African awards in Nairobi Kenya as well as South Sudanese awards in Juba.
