Security threatens attorneys – CES Governor

The Governor of Central Equatoria state has accused some members of the organized forces of threatening the state public prosecutor attorneys.

Governor Clement Wani Konga said such behavior interferes with the course of justice.

Governor Konga made the remarks while addressing the opening session of the state legislative assembly yesterday in Juba:

“We get reports that public prosecution attorneys are constantly threatened by some undisciplined members of the organized forces.

“It is clearly in law that the prerogative to make arrests and detentions lie only with the police; it is only the police who by law have the powers to issue warrants of arrest and detention.

“Therefore, the state government will endeavor to ensure that the arbitrarily arrests and detentions of citizens have been brought to an end.

The state will also ensure that public prosecution attorneys are provided with security for their protection.”

Governor Konga also announced that the state government is planning to construct standard prison facilities and new offices for police and public prosecution attorneys.
