The Mayor of Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal has issued a local order banning what he calls ‘indecent dressing’ by young people.

Arkangelo Anyar said he the order comes after a group of young people were arrested in a party after being mistaken for criminals.

Their clothes were torn by the police before they were released, an act which he considers unlawful.

Speaking to Eye Radio Mayor Anyar  said the order against indecent dressing is meant to stop unlawful arrests due to mistaken identity.

“You get a child, a boy or a girl are dressing in way that some of the parts of the body which are forbidden are left out and there it is creating other emotional feelings because it becomes a security threat,” he said.  “So we issued a local order to prevent all these niggers’ activities.”

The Mayor also urged parents and guardians to encourage young people to dress decently.
