Public service vehicles plying Juba-Yei road will now have security escorts, according to Central Equatoria State authorities.
This follows a series of road attacks along the road. On Saturday, a woman was killed when a vehicle she was traveling in came under attack by armed men.
Recently, about six people were killed in a similar incident.
The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Oliver Mule, says arrangements will be done to escort vehicles.
“But then, that means vehicles cannot now move separately or individually; vehicles will move in convoy so that there can be a security escort,” Mr Mule said.
However, Mr Mule could not say when exactly the deployment of the security personnel will begin.
Banditry is a common phenomenon on major roads leading to the capital, Juba. There have been reported cases of road ambushes along Juba-Nimule and Juba-Kajo-keji roads.
Both involved deaths and robberies.
