Ambassador James Morgan on Friday met with U.S Ambassador Michael J Adler

The Government of South Sudan has pledged to support international efforts aimed at combating the spread of Ebola following discussions in Juba between Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. James Pitia Morgan and United States Ambassador Michael J. Adler.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on strengthening national and regional preparedness measures as Ebola cases continue to rise in neighboring Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking to SSBC, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Agok Anyar said the discussions centered on cooperation between South Sudan and the United States in supporting Ebola response and prevention efforts.

“The ambassador discussed his government position in Ebola and restrictions on citizens from Uganda, DRC, and South Sudan traveling to the United States of America, including those holding diplomatic passports,” Anyar said.

He added that the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, is still reviewing travel measures affecting certain categories of passport holders.

“However, I emphasize that CDC still is in discussion on how to lift travels on certain type of passport holders,” he stated.

According to Anyar, the United States government also expressed readiness to support South Sudan’s Ebola preparedness plan through medical and logistical assistance.

“The United State government is also ready to help and support the government of South Sudan with his Ebola plan,” he said.

The spokesperson further disclosed that Ambassador Adler was accompanied by a US investor interested in South Sudan’s critical minerals sector.

Anyar said Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. James Pitia Morgan welcomed the investor and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting foreign investment in the country.

“Honorable Dr. Peter Morgan welcomes the US investor and South Sudan readiness to support any investor with interest in South Sudan,” he said.

The minister also assured the United States government of South Sudan’s cooperation in facilitating flights and transportation of critical medical supplies required for Ebola response operations in the region.

“He further emphasized that South Sudan… assured the United States government of South Sudan support towards the fight against Ebola by allowing and facilitating fly over of the United States flight towards the fight against Ebola while they transport critical medical related,” Anyar added.
