Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA) government said security organs have dispersed a handful of demonstrators who demanded the ousting of the Chief Administrator a move they say was politically motivated.

RAA Minister of Information Simon Chol said the protest took place at 6 AM on Monday in the town of Pariang which is the headquarters of the administrative area.

Chol said the situation returned to normalcy shortly after the security organs dispersed the civilians. It is not clear why the people demand the removal of the chief administrator.

The official claims that the demonstration was masterminded by unspecified individuals who are wrangling for power.

According to him, Ruweng Administrative Area is free from administrative outcry by the communities as the incident marks the first protest in the area.

“We had a few people who collected themselves and staged a demonstration,” he said in an interview with Eye Radio on Monday.

“Of course, the demonstration was not that big, calling for the resignation of the chief administrator but they were dispersed by the security and the situation in the whole area is normal and people are moving about or going about their usual activities.”

“This is a politically motivated situation because if someone is calling for the removal of the sitting governor, then that means someone is looking for a seat somewhere.”
