A 28-year-old man has drunk himself to death on New Year’s Eve in Rumbek in Lakes State, according to a law enforcement official.
Lakes State Police Spokesman Maj. Elijah Mabor said in an Eye Radio interview that officers found the victim lying near the road in Rumbek’s main market.
Makuac said police was tipped about the incident at Malualbab area beside the market before visiting the scene and determining that the man was already dead.
He said the boy was taken to hospital for postmortem after a police statement was issued. The hospital confirmed he had died from access alcohol in the bloodstream.
“Later on it was prove by medical examination that cause his death is consuming too much alcohol. In fact the way we know this boy was actually somebody addicted to alcohol,” he said.
Maj. Makuac said the victim was an alcohol addict who had deserted his parent’s home and was residing in the market.
“He usually used to look for money, when he find a little cash, he immediately uses it to acquire alcohol and remains in the market. He never goes back home until his death yesterday (Tuesday).”
