Civil society groups and government agencies in Juba have condemned the reported atrocities against South Sudanese citizens in Sudan’s Wad Madani City allegedly by the Sudanese Army Forces (SAF).

This followed the publication of gruesome videos on social media of South Sudanese nationals murdered on camera in the capital of Al Jazira State following its fall into the hands of the army under Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan.

This has raised concern about the safety of thousands of South Sudanese nationals who have been stranded in the war-torn neighboring country.

Sarah Nyanath Elijah, Executive Director of the Gender Empowerment for South Sudan Organization condemns the abuses against South Sudanese civilians by elements of the Sudanese army in Wad Medani.

She says the brutal and thought-provoking videos of these heinous acts demand the strongest condemnation and immediate action.

On his part, Ter Manyang, the head of Center for Peace and Advocacy calls on the international community to hold the Sudanese army accountable for the killings of innocent civilians.

The South Sudan Youth Union has also expressed its disappointment and described the killing as barbaric.

The spokesperson of the Youth Union, Apollo Marial Rong, urged the South Sudan government to take immediate action to protect its citizens in Sudan.

“The barbaric killing of the South Sudanese Nationals in Madani by the warring parties in Sudan, based on the video footage trending on social media are neither armed nor in uniform,” he said.

“This horrifying act of violence by the Sudanese armed group against the South Sudanese nationals is a direct assault on human rights and genocidal.”

“The national Youth Union, condemns this and unprovoked xenophobia against South Sudanese Nationals and calls on the Sudanese warring parties to show respect for human rights. We urged our government to take immediate action, to protect our Nationals who may be targeted in the Republic of Sudan.”

On Wednesday, South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Sudanese Ambassador, Isam Mohamed Hassan, to explain the circumstances in Wad Madani of Al Jazira State following the takeover from the Rapid Support Forces.

“We are here to register our concerns about what is taking place Al Jazira of Wad Madani after it has been liberated by the Sudanese armed forces from the rapid support Force,” said Ambassador John Samuel Bwogo, the Undersecretary in the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Some of you may have seen a lot of footage on social media about what is happening. Not only to South Sudanese citizens but also to Sudanese citizens after the recapture.”

“They’re all organized wherever they go. So, they are organized in Al Jazira. And this communication we don’t have the exact statistics. So, at the moment you cannot say anything will remain Seas of the situation and will let you know.”

The Sudanese ambassador to Juba ambassador Isam Karar has confirmed that the Sudanese government has formed an investigation committee to investigate these crimes against South Sudanese.

“Investigation committees have been formed to follow up and investigate these crimes and arrest those who caused and committed these crimes against our South Sudanese brothers or even against the Sudanese in general.”

“Everyone knows that this war has many nationalities participating in Sudan, and we confirm that the Sudanese government completely rejects such actions and these crimes.”

“It is a country that respects international humanitarian law and all the charters and regulations of the Geneva Conventions that deal with war in countries. God willing, such events will not have an impact on the strong and fraternal relations between the two countries.”

Since the conflict began in 2023 in Sudan, there have been many cases of South Sudanese citizens killed in Sudan according to media reports.
