Relocate us, Konyo-Konyo traders urge Juba mayor

Butchers from Konyo-Konyo South Market are appealing to the local authority to relocate them after they were ordered to evacuate the area.

The order was issued by the Mayor of Juba on Thursday last week and they were given seven days to move.

Eye Radio spoke to some of the butchers.

“The women who sell vegetables, the men who sell meat in this place since the 6th, they have been given seven days and now we are remaining with two days,” said a butcher who sought anonymity.

“After these two days, where will these people go?”

They claim they’ve have been in the market since 2007.

“This will affect the spirit of responsibility because this market promotes people; we have children in its hands, people eat from it, live from it and get education [from it],” exclaimed another trader.

The order given to the Konyo-Konyo traders stated that registered butchers would be given priority to rent meat shops once buildings have been erected.
