A communiqué to disarm and control the cattle raiders causing insecurity in Eastern Equatoria has been signed between South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.
The agreement was signed after a series of cattle raids allegedly conducted by the Karamoja community of Uganda against the Toposa.
Mawien Makol, the spokesperson of the ministry of Foreign Affairs says the signing of the agreement was witnessed by Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
“Border issues are very sensitive issues that need to be discussed and people have to be committed to those principles for the border control, border management and other issues in respect to border problems,” he added.
Ambassador Mawien also said that communiqué stresses ways of engaging the communities in developmental issues so as to reduce their involvement on cattle raids.
The Ugandan government in cooperation with South Sudan has also pledged to disarm the Karamoja cattle keepers who often cross into South Sudan territories.
