President Kiir urges IDPs in UN base to return home

President Salva Kiir is urging people sheltering at United Nations camps to return to home because he says conditions will worsen as the rainy season starts.

The President said the condition of the Internally Displaced Persons at UNMISS camps may worsen following the announcement of an outbreak of cholera in Juba.

On Friday, the National Ministry of Health announced that more than 11 people have so far died of cholera in Juba.

President Kiir who was addressing the nation during the 31st anniversary of the formation of the SPLA-SPLM at Freedom Square on Friday said those living at UNMISS camps are at risk:

“The condition in which our brothers and sisters are in at UNMISS is not what human beings are supposed to be in. so I am calling you to come out of this place and return to your homes.”

President Kiir urged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and international agencies operating in Juba to take care of the IDPs

The President also thanked UNMISS and other international NGOs and agencies for supporting the IDPs with lifesaving services.
