President Salva Kiir has hosted a national prayer breakfast at the State House, bringing together leaders and citizens for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to national unity.
The event is attended by political leaders, religious leaders, civil society representatives, and other guests.
The prayer breakfast comes at a time when leaders of parties to the peace agreement have proposed an amendment to the deal to pave the way for the conduct of general elections in December 2026.
Similar national prayer events have previously been held as part of efforts to calm political tensions and encourage dialogue among rival political groups.
National prayers were held in Juba in 2017 and 2018, shortly before the signing of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.
Other national prayer gatherings were also organized in 2020 and 2023, focusing on peace, reconciliation, and national healing.
