The Inspector General of the National Police Service has dismissed reports that he has defected from the government.

The reports suggest that Gen. Pieng Deng Kuol abandoned his position and left Juba to fight the government.

Gen. Pieng clarified that he left Juba on an official duty on Tuesday. He says that he traveled to Abyei to monitor the security situation after the recent attacks.

He spoke to Eye Radio from Abyei this morning.

“I want to tell all our citizens that this is not true. I don’t think I can defect. Where can I go?” Gen Pieng told Eye Radio’s breakfast show, The Dawn.

“I am Inspector.  I’m in the last police rank. I am a General. I can’t defect. General can stay and do something else because he is not a politician.”

General Pieng says that some people are spreading false information to create insecurity and instability in the country.

“I will be back in Juba after three days.”
