The peace monitoring body, R-JMEC says parties to the roadmap are away behind extended transitional schedules.

This comes after the Transitional Government of National Unity commenced the third year of implementation of the peace agreement.

According to the road map the graduated unified forces were supposed to be redeployed in September last year.

Besides, the establishment of the institutions and mechanisms for the constitution-making process would have been completed.

But these, among others, are yet to be achieved.

The Chair of R-JMEC, Charles Tai Gituai urged the unity government to provide adequate funding for the implementation of the peace roadmap.

He says there is an urgent need for all parties to take concrete steps to expedite the implementation of the critical pending tasks as per the roadmap.

Speaking during the R-JMEC meeting in Juba on Thursday March 2023, the head of the peace monitoring body says there is an urgent need for all parties to take concrete steps to expedite the implementation of the critical pending tasks as per the roadmap.

“Provide adequate funding of the Roadmap tasks in a clear and predictable manner, operationalize all the enacted laws, particularly those related to the permanent constitution and elections processes, to expedite the reconstitution of the Political Parties Council and the establishment of the bodies required by the Constitution-Making Process Act 2022, and expedite the enactment of the National Elections Bill,” said Charles Tai.

Charles stressed the parties designed the roadmap and that they should demonstrate commitment to it by ensuring adequate resources to implement the mechanisms.
