The national legislature has unanimously passed the 2023 South Sudan Revenue Authority Amendment Bill that grants the institution the power to independently collect revenues.

The bill was tabled in its third reading during which the legislators thoroughly reviewed and incorporated their recommendations and observations into the document.

Passed on Wednesday, October 11, the Act is now tilled as the ‘South Sudan Revenue Authority as opposed to the National Revenue Authority.

The changes were made after some lawmakers demanded that the name should be amended to align with the provisions of the Transitional Constitution and the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

It grants the institution the power to independently collect revenues and remit them to the Ministry of Finance.

“Honorable members of the August House the South Sudan Revenue Authority Bill 2023 is hereby passed at its fourth reading and final reading with all the recommendations and observations made by the house,” RTNLA Speaker Hon. Jemma Nunu told lawmakers.
